Ways to Avoid Computer-related Headaches

Computer-related headaches aren’t solely caused by overexposure to radiation. Sometimes, it could just be your posture, monitor screen, work station, or environment that actually needs modification. If your work entails hours of sitting in front of a computer, here are what you can do to reduce your risks of getting a headache:

Adjust the brightness of your monitor’s screen.
Excessively bright monitors can cause eye strain, and eye strain can lead to a headache. Therefore, one way to avoid computer-related headaches is by balancing the brightness of your monitor’s screen.

Avoid working in an overly bright or dark room.
You may have adjusted your monitor’s brightness to moderate, but then your environment is just as overly bright as your screen is. This won’t save you from headaches. Instead it can induce pain just as much.

An unlit room, on the other hand, can also lead to headaches as the brightness of your screen intensifies when your surrounding is dark. If you don’t want to put too much strain on your eyes, make use of your room’s light.

Center your monitor.
If your monitor is situated either on your left or right, move it to the center so it will rest just across you. Apart from poor posture, complex computer positioning can also develop muscle tension and this is definitely one culprit behind headaches.

Don’t sit too close to your monitor.
Set a generous amount of distance between your eyes and the monitor. An arm’s length away from it is ideal. Remember that working too close or too far from your screen can both cause eye strain, too.

Sit straight while working.
Poor ergonomics can lead to muscle tension. If tension headaches aren’t your thing, then sit properly throughout your working hours.

Stand up from time to time.
Surviving over eight hours of sitting and working in front of a computer is not in any way impressive. If this is how you spend your everyday, it’s about time you do something about this routine of yours. It is advisable to stand up and walk from time to time to keep unnecessary muscle tension from building up.

Use an anti-glare filter on your screen.
This will help keep your monitor’s brightness at a minimum. It will also make your monitor’s light more tolerable for the eyes.
