The Relationship between Magnesium and Migraines

Magnesium is a mineral that is naturally present in the body. It is responsible for about 300 chemical reactions that make the body function properly. Did you know that a deficiency in this mineral could trigger migraines? Unfortunately, this is true, as magnesium regulates the level of serotonin, a neurotransmitter responsible for the stirrings of a migraine attack. When serotonin levels fluctuate, it stretches nerve endings and trigger pain, which results to migraines.

To avoid this, it is advisable that you take magnesium supplements to lower migraine frequency. These supplements can be taken orally, but for people who are suffering from severe cases of migraines, it can also be applied intravenously. Magnesium sulfate can be injected on the patient’s nerves and this can lessen the occurrence of migraine dramatically.
