Healthy Alternatives for Treating Headaches

Headaches could be caused by a variety of reasons. It could be from hunger, stress, the unreliable weather, or even your hormones. Despite the many things that cause headaches, most people rely on pain relievers to address their stinging headaches. Yet did you know that overdependence on medicine could cause rebound headaches? Also, what would you do if there are no pills left in your medical cabinet? Below are organic alternatives to popping pills.

  • Water – Some headaches are caused by dehydration. All you have to do is just to rehydrate and see if the pain slowly fades away.
  • Magnesium – For women, some of your headaches are caused by menstrual cramps and pain. This might mean that you’re low in magnesium. Whole grains, seafood, nuts, and raisins would be good for you. Have a cup of hot oatmeal to help soothe the pain, and to complete your healthy snack.
  • Ginger – Ginger helps cure headaches due to its anti-inflammatory and antihistamine properties. Drink a cup of ginger tea or pop candied ginger along with your healthy meals.
  • Toast – Headaches can also occur when you skip a meal. If your headache is triggered by hunger, it probably means that you’re low on glycogen. Conquer this by eating. However, reach for a piece of toast first, as a whole wheat bread is high on glycogen.

If your headaches are causing you to squirm in pain, make sure to eat the right kind of food and to drink the right beverages. With proper eating habits, you’ll feel better in no time.
