When experiencing a headache, most of us just head to the medicine cabinet to find the appropriate pill to stop the painful throbbing. However, did you know that you can opt for a more natural means of treating your headache? Eating certain fruits can also be an equally effective solution because of the particular nutrients that they provide.
After all, a common cause of headaches is skipping meals, which deprives your body of much needed sustenance to function properly. If you’ve been neglecting proper eating habits and find that your head hurts a lot because of this, you can at least make up for it by snacking on the right fruits as a quick solution.
Fruits that are rich in antioxidants and low in acid are said to be some of the best, such as pears and cantaloupes. Those that are high in water content such as watermelons are good too, especially since dehydration can sometimes lead to headaches.
Apples can help ease stress-related head pains due to high flavonoid content, which can lower blood pressure. Bananas have a calming effect because of the magnesium and potassium that can be derived from it.
Pineapples, although acidic, are also rich in the bromelain enzyme, which has been known for centuries to be a natural pain reliever for its anti-inflammatory properties.
Like bananas and watermelons, peaches are also great sources of magnesium that help boost your body’s immune system. Peaches also contain vitamin B-2, which is said to reduce migraine symptoms.
With such impressive nutritional values, reaching for that bowl of fruit sure seems like a more enticing alternative to just popping a pill in your mouth when you have a headache, don’t you think?
