For migraine sufferers who struggle with taking oral medications due to symptoms like nausea and vomiting, the recent FDA approval NuPathe Inc. gained for its product Zecuity could be the remedy they need.
Zecuity is the world’s first FDA-approved skin patch treatment for migraine. It transmits sumatriptan in the body through the skin. Experts explain that this battery-powered, single-use skin patch is particularly beneficial for migraine sufferers who also experience gastroparesis as Zecuity is only attached either to the arm or thigh during treatment. It is applied for four hours and it automatically adjusts the amount of sumatriptan being delivered to the patient’s body by monitoring the skin’s resistance to the transmission procedure. The Zecuity skin patch will be available to consumers before the year ends, says NuPathe CEO Armando Anido.
Meanwhile, here are some precautionary reminders from NuPathe Inc. regarding health conditions that won’t sit well with the newly-approved skin patch.
