It is never an uncommon sight to see someone cringing, holding on to his temples, and swearing in pain as the painful throbbing takes over his head. Headaches are as ordinary as puberty. Sooner or later, all the stress of working too hard will get to your head most probably in a bad way.
As common as they come, headaches are triggered by a wide variety of things. While there are many causes of headaches, few are as intriguing as artificial sweeteners. Because of the body’s inability to process artificial, non-nutritive ingredients, experts say that artificial sweeteners can be linked to various ailments and diseases. The food additive is blamed for the pain in the head because phenylalanine, an amino acid found in artificial sweeteners, has negative implications on neurotransmitter, which in turn triggers headaches. Aside from headaches, artificial sweeteners are also linked to cancer.
However, there are insufficient studies that can support this claim. With that, it is advisable that you consult your doctor first to determine if you are prone to headaches due to the food additive.
